Düsseldorf Airport

Düsseldorf, Germany

Alexander Nieswandt

Düsseldorf Airport is the third-largest airport in Germany and North Rhine-Westphalia's most important international hub. There are around 590 starts and landings daily. With more than 20 million passengers annually, the need for servicing and repairs to aircraft also increases.

The airberlin airline maintains the largest servicing location in Düsseldorf Airport's servicing hangars 7 and 8. All airberlin machines regularly undergo a variety of engineering inspections. At their engineering site in Düsseldorf more than 400 employees take care of both large and small safety inspections.

With an area of 7,800 square metres, hangar 8 is as large as a football pitch. When the hangar was serviced it was necessary to refurbish the floor slab. The planners decided on JORDAHL® JDSD double shear connectors to transfer the high shear forces between the more than 56 square metre floor slabs.
