The Upper West ensemble of buildings is situated right beside the iconic Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in Berlin. Along with offices and an underground car park, the complex houses a hotel and a shopping centre over 53,000 square metres.
The 15 cable-borne elevators by KONE GmbH are an essential feature of Upper West. Of the 15 elevators, five are the KONE MiniSpace™ model and ten are the MonoSpace® 700. In addition to the elegant design of the elevator car, premium comfort for passengers, and state-of-the-art control system, the energy-efficient drive system also plays an important role in saving resources – a key objective at Upper West.
The connection system selected for the lifts had to meet several requirements: to facilitate the precise control of the elevator car; to ensure counterbalance; and to be quick and easy to install. JORDAHL® anchor channels JTA W were the principal choice for the project. Hot-rolled elements with a high load-bearing capacity made from galvanised or stainless steel were chosen as these could reliably support the loads in lift operation, both in the reinforced und non-reinforced components. By using encased anchor channels, it was possible to attach elevator guide rails, doors and other components to the lift shafts. Moreover, anchor channels are approved for use in building areas with stringent fire safety requirements. JORDAHL® anchor channels JTA W comply with the European Technical Approval (ETA-09/0338) and are technically approved (Z-21.4-151).
For this particular site, numerous orders for individual items resulted in a total of 3,000 anchor channels being supplied. A project management tool enabled the team responsible for the project at KONE to keep track of processes at JORDAHL. The tool enables process transparency and just-in-time delivery where required.
